Dorado (bottom) and Caelum (top) are constellations for observers in the southern hemisphere. Their star patterns are not very conspicious and the stars are quite faint (see lines). The brightest star of Dorado has 3.5 mag and of Caelum only about 4.5 mag visual brightness. However, the prominent Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) on the southern border of Dorado helps to find the constellation Dorado quickly.
In mid of January the shown field culminates at about 9:30 pm local time. The declination of the two constellation borders reaches from -70 to -27 degrees.
Deep Sky observers can find, beside the LMC, a couple of galaxies starting at about 10 mag in this field of view and one more bright globular cluster (see also the magnifications).
