Conspicuos Orion culminates in the south at about midnight in December. The bright star Rigel, Orions left foot, together with the brightest stars of Canis Major, Canis Minor, Gemini, Auriga, and Taurus make up the famous star pattern of the winter hexagon. Leo, the lion, has risen in the east.
