NGC 1404 is a typical Elliptical Galaxy in the Fornax Cluster of Galaxies. Its distance is about 50 million lightyears. The fuzzy dot towards the upper left of NGC 1404 is a dwarf galaxy also belonging to the Fornax Cluster. In contrast to spiral galaxies like NGC 6946, no young bluish stellar component is visible. Elliptical galaxies contain only old stars, and so they appear in a uniform color as seen above.
