Sometimes bright meteors leave luminous trails in the upper atmosphere that may last a few minutes. Such a persistent train was imaged above. The photographic appearance lasted about 3 min. Strong winds in the upper atmosphere torn the train apart due to different wind speeds and directions at different heights.

Perseid meteor

This long lasting train is something different than the short lasting (about 2 s) green train of a perseid.

The next Meteor Camp will be held from August 22nd until August 26th, 2025.
