Centered in the photography is the field of the southern constellation Sculptor (see lines). The four brightest stars are only about 4.5th magnitude. Therefore the constellation outlines are quite hard to find in the sky. Look for the bright star Fomalhaut in Piscis Austrinus, which is just to the west of Sculptor (brightest star on the right of the photography).

Best observing time in mid of October is about 23:00 (11:00 pm) local time. The declination of the constellation borders ranges from -40o to -25o.

The field of Sculptor contains two prominent galaxies, which show up easily in a pair of binoculars (see the interesting deep sky object section). With the exception of one globular star cluster, no galactic deep sky objects can be found. The galactic plane is 90 degrees away, i.e. the south galactic pole is positioned in Sculptor.
