The Beutenlay is a recreational area close to the small city of Münsingen and Hopfenburg campground. A night walk and sky guide was organized by the dark sky project "Sternenpark Schwäbische Alb" for about twenty participants. A favorable night sky can be observed from the Beutenlay just about two km south of Münsingen.

The brightness in the zenith was 21.16 mag/arcsec² at 1:14 CET during the above image. The sky was darker with 21.24 mag/arcsec² just after the moon set at around 0:05 CET. Therefore the sky is brightened by a factor of two compared to a natural dark sky. Main sources of light pollution are Münsingen close by and the area of Stuttgart about 50 km into the northern direction. The rise in brightness before morning dawn is because of the close by milky may and airglow, seen as greenish ripples in the imaged sky. Measurements were obtained every minute with SQM-LU-DL, serial number 2030.
